The riots of Los Angeles were also known as the Rodney King Riots. These riots involved arson, looting, and civil disturbance. These riots lasted six days and were right after the riots in New York. The riots had started in South Los Angeles but spread as they got worse and continued. They had started on April 29th after a trail, jury had decided that four white police men be freed of charged. These police officers were caught on camera beating a African American named Rodney King. After the trail when everyone had heard the verdict assault, arson, looting, and murder had began. Most of the rioting were from African Americans and some from the civil rights movement who thought this was wrong that the men were freed without charge. The government sent soldiers from the California Army National Guard the 7th Infantry Division and marines from 1st Marine Division were called in to help stop the rioting after the local police could not handle the situation. 53 people were killed and over 2,000 were injured in the riot. The impact of the riot was that it was known as a group not as a single person. Many people had helped to make a change. Helped prove that in an near the south there was still racial problems and being caught on tape by someone was huge. Helped end some of the slavery that was occcuring in the south.
The riot had put blacks into the spot light. Making them show that one of their kind being beaten an then the men who did it be washed clean of sleight would not go without being a world wide problem. Everyone was attacked in these riots. Including truckers who didn't even beat Rodney in the first place. Women beaten and men and houses destroyed. Cars lite on fire, and stores vandalized. People fear the blacks and had to have army officials be brought in to stop the riots.
